It is hard to believe that I have lived in this apartment building for nearly fourteen years. Three of my neighbours have been here for the same amount of time. We chat whenever we meet in the halls and we go out for dinner together every now and then. One day, I showed my friends the book of our trip to Scotland that Peggy made me for Christmas. One of them asked me if I thought Peggy would show her how use Shutterfly on the computer. It is not quite as easy as it seems. Peggy came over one evening and she and Arlene worked until 2:30 in the morning to complete Arlene's book. They sent it off, in hopes it would arrive in time for Christmas. It was touch-and-go for a while, but the first batch arrived in time for each of Arlene's children to receive one for a gift. The siblings had to wait until New Year's for theirs. What a wonderful thing to read about your family history, written by your mother or sister. Pictures of parents and grandparents and articles and poems that Arlene collected over the years. You can imagine the response that Arlene received from her family.
To celebrate her success, Arlene invited us to her "book-launching" wine and cheese party on Sunday afternoon. The three neighbours from the main floor, Sue, Peggy and me. A fun afternoon to celebrate, and to realize how important our heritage is.
