Christmas Cookies

It seems early to prepare for Christmas, but that is exactly what we did on Monday. My friend, Dorothy, asked if I would make some recipes for her "Family Recipe Book," and then have Peggy take pictures of the finished products. That was last week -- Dorothy and I discussed old-time recipes over dinner. I said I would make the "Nana Ewing's Molasses Cookies" and the "Swedish Pineapple Walnut Cake" recipes.

Dorothy said that Heather was also making molasses cookies and that we should have a "cookie decorating party." Between the two of them, Dorothy and Heather made three varieties of soup, also from the old recipes. Dorothy invited a bunch of us to her place for dinner on Monday and we feasted on delicious soups and decadent Swedish cake. Oh my, those recipes are not what today's dietitians would recommend for a healthy heart.

After supper we cleared up and then proceeded to decorate the mounds of cookies we had baked. Everyone was determined to make their cookies the prettiest, but no one was judging. Lots of fun for all ages; we would do that again. My hat is off to Nana Ewing.

I had a terrific time. Let's do something like that again soon -- and this time maybe Garth and Avril can come.
